You don't need to be a skyscraper to play as a centre back, Mascherano played for Barca there and he won bloody everything and he was phenomenal, Guardiola played Kimmich for a whole season as a centre back with Bayern Munich.

Some are saying, but then why is De Gea also blamed here? well, despite him making some "impossible" saves, it is more important that he is consistent in saving the "possible" saves. And De Gea has had many many blunders in the last 2 seasons despite playing exclusively in all the games. Another problem with De Gea is he is not very dominant. Some physically strong strikers are able to bully him and not all the time refereeing decisions go the GK's way. De Gea reminds me of Iker Casillas towards the end of his career. And how Keylor Navas really solidified that. I think Dean Henderson needs to be given the chance.
Money doesn't come in to it. Maguire has been responsible for letting more goals in than Lindelof. Just because UTD had their pants pulled down over his price, shouldn't make him an automatic first choice. Ferguson wouldn't have put up with his displays. If he's picked for every game, there is no chance that he will ever learn by his mistakes.

Man Utd play Maguire because he cost 80mil. But how much are they losing by being trophyless every season he plays? The additional problem is that you cannot reclaim that money back, no team will buy him for even half of that. So yes, they're stuck with him for the foreseeable, unless he gets injured. If I was Ole I'd have him training with gymnastics, not to encourage anything too serious, just a broken arm maybe, or a torn muscle. You know, keep him out for a month or so. Then bring in someone decent.

Maguire is the main problem, he's got in over his head, 85m price tag, captains band, he feels like he is untouchable. He needs to have 1-2 world class centre backs in so he has to work to force himself to the starting XI.

What I liked about Vidic was his dominance in the air and no one could bully him on set pieces. Ferdinand was maybe more finesse in his style but he was quick and brilliant in the air as well. Maguire and Lindelof collectively and individually are laughable in comparison but then again most cbs would be. Atleast with Maguire he is similar to Vidic in his style.

I said it last season that the two of them wouldn't win them a title. Yes they had a very good defensive record last season. But the goals conceded contained many individual errors. We were poor offensively because we were concentrating on shielding Lindelof and Maguire. AWB did that so much last season. And when Ole has said enough is enough we're going to be more attacking this season, you can clearly see that they're conceding a lot more. Many goals we conceded this season are preventable. Strangely enough we have the best attack in the league in terms of goals. We only conceded 36 goals in the league last season. We've conceded 31 at this stage already. We've scored 50 goals already this season but we only managed to score 66 last season. We had a GD of plus 30. Currently we only have a GD of plus 19. That tells you the whole story already.
